PRAYER AND THE CONTEMPLATIVE LIFE
Year Two: September 2008-May 2009
Open to Kairos Year One Alumni and others by approval.
Objectives
- To deepen one’s personal journey and relationship with God through extended times of silence in reflection, meditation, and prayer.
- To explore what it means to live more fully from one's relationship with God in everyday life in the world.
- To study and experience various prayer forms, individually and in the group.
- To identify common experiences of the spiritual journey and to reflect on and articulate one’s own journey.
- To be available to God’s ongoing transformation that leads to freedom and wholeness.
- To encourage attentiveness to one's ongoing spiritual walk.
Individual Commitments

Read assigned material before each monthly retreat.
- Attend all monthly retreats.
- Enter into silence and solitude to create sacred space with God and honor that space for others.
- Share your own spiritual journey with others in the group.
- Engage in spiritual disciplines throughout the year.
- Pray for yourself, classmates, team leaders, and Jesuit Center staff and residents.
Class Facilitators
Peg Cromer, M.A., has been a spiritual director for 13 years and has taught at Kairos for 5 (non-consecutive) years. She received her Masters degree in Holistic Spirituality and Spiritual Direction from Chestnut Hill College. She also has a Masters degree in Nursing and works as an RN in hospital administration. She lives in Lititz, has two grown daughters who were adopted from South Korea, has been a widow for 7 years after 25 years of marriage, and is a member of the Lititz Moravian Congregation.
Barry Young, M.A., has been a spiritual director for over 25 years and joined the Kairos faculty in 2006. He received his Masters degree in Holistic Spirituality and Spiritual Direction from Chestnut Hill College in 1995. Barry serves as co-director for Spiritual Life Associates and the Next Step Program, both of Bethlehem, PA. He lives in Bethlehem with his wife Louise. Barry and Louise have four married children and ten grandchildren.
Location: Wernersville, PA
All sessions are held at the quiet and beautiful campus of the Jesuit Spiritual Center, North Church Road, Wernersville, Pa. There are classrooms, chapels, and 260 acres of rolling hills and woods for strolling and solitude. Students have private rooms with shared baths. All meals are served buffet style, with the option for eating in silence.

Scholarships / Grants
A limited number of scholarships are available. We do not want the cost of this program to discourage anyone who is drawn to apply. Please contact the Director for scholarship information. Scholarship applications are due July 15, 2007.
