Deepening Prayer:
Putting on the Mind of Christ
The framework for this course is built around understanding and experiencing the transformation expressed in the phrase, "Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 2: 5). What does this look like and how do we move more deeply toward this way of living and being?
I believe this concept and experience is about a transformation of our awareness as we take on the qualities of Christ’s mind. This is not new to Kairos. All of our work is about this transformation. In this Deepening prayer curriculum, we will look more explicitly at this work and practice.
Prerequisite
Kairos Years One and Two or equivalent experience in spiritual formation.
Objectives
-
Contemplative prayer is the heart of our practice. Through silence, contemplative prayer, reading and conversation, (and always expecting God’s Spirit to be at work in us) we will attempt to include the following in this course:
-
Increase our understanding and experience of what this transformation might mean
-
Explore how various authors and traditions understand and give language to these ideas
-
Notice more deeply how this work is already taking shape in our lives
-
Consider additional or different practices that might help us in this transformation
Options
There are two nine-month options available for Deepening Prayer students. A full weekend is offered, from Friday dinner at 5:45 pm through Sunday lunch, ending around 1:30 pm. A Saturday-only option is also available. Saturdays begin at 9:00am and conclude at 8:00pm. Saturday retreatants will join the class for the main input and group discussions on Saturday, as well as have time for personal silence and solitude. Lunch and dinner on Saturday are included.
In addition, alumni who have completed Year Two are invited to attend any Deepening Prayer weekend as a weekend retreatant. We are offering two separate tracks. Track One is for those who want some input during the weekend along with periods for personal silence/solitude. Track Two is for those who want a silent retreat with times on Friday and Sunday to meet for group reflection.
