Inspiration: A Fresh Encounter with God's Word
September 30-October 2, 2011 or October 1, Saturday only
While many people enjoy reading the Bible and learn a great deal from doing so, others find it difficult, unhelpful or even offensive. During our time together, we will (1) discuss various reasons why people struggle reading the Bible; (2) explore what the Bible is and what function it plays in the spiritual life; and (3) consider selected biblical texts and ways to read them.

Contemplative Life & Prayer: Through the Eyes of the Mystics
November 4-6, 2011 or November 5, Saturday only
We all desire to live more contemplatively. God wants that for us too. How are we to follow this call in our distracted and overly busy lives? Is it even possible to "keep an eye" on God, as God "keeps an eye" on us? The mystics teach us and convince us that there is a mystic in each of us that is called and capable of a contemplative life even in this world. Growth incontemplation is more God's doing than ours. The God who called the mystics calls us too. This retreat will help us to respond to God's invitation, not to pray as the mystics pray, but as the mystic within each one of us prays.

Advent Day Retreat
December 3, 2011
"The Substance of Thins Hoped For...": An Advent Prayer Day
The season of Advent is a time before and between ... a time of not-yet-but-longing-to-be ... a time of promises encountered, waiting endured, hopes embraced, joys expressed... and faith finally experienced in flesh-and-blood reality. During this quiet day of prayer, participants will be invited to engage the mystery of these Advent movements in their own lives ... and to renew their hope in the One who continues to come into the world, to make all things new.
The day will include song and movement, silence and sharing, guided prayer and spiritual exercises. Please bring a journal. All other supplies will be provided.

Noticing God's Nudges
January 6-8, 2012 or January 7, Saturday only
Spiritual discernment is the practice of listening and responding to God as we find our way through life. During this day of retreat, we will reflect on how we can better notice and respond to God’s nudges as we make decisions for our lives. Drawing from Nancy Bieber’s book Decision Making & Spiritual Discernment The Sacred Art of Finding Our Way, we will consider ways of seeing ourselves and our choices more clearly, of knowing when to take the next steps and when to wait.
The rhythm of the day includes individaul retreat time as well as group discussion. We will learn practical exercises to aid our attentiveness to God and to take steps into decision making. You do not need to be facing a major decision to participate: wise shaping of our lives constantly calls us to wise discernment.

How Do I Know It's You Speaking God
February 3-5, 2012 or Saturday, February 4 only
Is that you, God, or is it just me? How can I truly recognize God speaking? Does God really speak to me personally?
God longs to reveal God's hopes and desires for us. Our main task is to be as equally present to God as God is to us so that we can begin to recognize that voice we so long to hear and know as God. Participate in this primary teaching session with Kairos Spiritual Formation Year One students. Be a part of the optional sessions which include a variety of prayer forms, such as Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina, and an opportunity to meet with a spiritual director.
